Dear Fellow Pet Lovers,
Where is the best place for a pet to live? Indoors or Outdoors?
Outdoors pets have fresh air and the ability to stretch legs, maybe get more exercise.
Indoors pets get less exercise, sometimes gain weight, sometimes can soil your house. But you get to be with them and enjoy them more.
Here are a few pointers on this topic....
If you keep OUTDOORS pets,
1-Keep the pets confined, such as in a fenced yard, to avoid big dog /little dog trauma, hit by car, heat stroke, contagious disease exposure, etc.
2- Keep ALL preventive care recommended by your DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) IN IN IN. For example, heartworm prevention, vaccines, worm and flea control, etc.
3- Interact with the pet every day, and especially, LOOK at the pet too. Is all ok? Is there sufficient shelter, shade, food, and water?
If you have and INDOORS pet,
1- Feed the pet correctly. Especially, avoid overfeeding and excessive weight gain, which affects health.
2- Walk your pet dog frequently. This will reduce many behavior problems greatly. (Not sure how you walk a cat)
3- Keep all preventive care recommended by your DVM IN IN IN. Indoors pets have their own sets of problems associated with their more sedentary lifestyle, just as we may. Your DVM will recommend optimum care for such pets.
The stereotypes do not always apply, but they give you an idea.
So, which type of pet is best? Indoors or Outdoors?
The answer??????? (drum rolllllllllllllllllll)
Each type of pet has its benefits and challenges. It boils down to personal preference and your lifestyle.
Outdoors pets are often better exercised and less prone to obesity, but more prone to trauma, infectious disease, and envirinmental problems.
Indoors pets are protected from the environment, but more prone to conditions we associate with a sedentary lifestyle, such as diabetes, Cushings disease, kidney disease, etc..
So, pick your type and know that you are definitely RIGHT!
That is all.
